How to Play Spyfall and Words
Game Overview
Spyfall is a party game of deception and deduction. In each round, all players are assigned the same location, except for one player who is the spy. The spy must figure out the location, while everyone else tries to identify the spy without revealing too much information.
Setup
Gather 3-12 players. All three browser games are available on one shared device or in a private online room, without an account.
Choose a game, pack and timer on the home dashboard. For online play, create a room and share its invitation; each player uses their own browser. Talk in person or on an external call.
On one device, pass the concealed screen between players. Online, each player opens their own card. Hide and acknowledge your card before play starts. Reloading a local game resets it; online rooms can recover membership in the same tab while it remains valid.
Gameplay
1. Start the timer.
2. Players take turns asking each other questions about the location.
3. Questions can be about anything related to the location, but must be directed at a specific player.
4. The spy tries to gather information without revealing their identity.
5. Non-spy players try to identify the spy while confirming others know the location.
Ending the Round
Call a vote during discussion or wait for the discussion timer to expire. A strict majority means more than half of all players, not just the submitted ballots. A tie, no majority or accusing a civilian gives the spy the win.
A caught spy gets one final location guess. A correct guess wins for the spy; an incorrect guess or an expired guess timer wins for the civilians. Catching the spy alone is not yet a civilian win.
Local groups can pass the device for concealed ballots or choose the labeled host-entered result after voting aloud. Online votes and deadlines are resolved by the server.
Words: no-word
Civilians receive the same secret word. One imposter gets no word and knows they are the imposter.
Give clues in the displayed order for 1-3 rounds, without saying the word. Online clues are typed, up to 80 characters, with 60 seconds per turn; an expired turn is skipped. Then discuss and vote.
A strict majority must catch the imposter. A tie, no majority or accusing a civilian gives the imposter the win. A caught imposter gets one typed word guess: correct wins, incorrect or expired loses. Capitalization and extra spaces are ignored and listed aliases are accepted, but spelling is not fuzzy-matched.
Words: related-word
Most players receive one word and one imposter receives a related word. Every card shows only its word, never which group the player belongs to.
Follow the same ordered clue rounds, discussion and strict-majority vote. Catching the imposter wins immediately for the majority. Otherwise the imposter wins. There is no final guess.
Results reveal both words and the player groups. Spyfall and no-word online results keep secret assignments private.
Scores, rematches and offline play
Each winning player receives one point. Rematch keeps session scores, rotates the starting player and deals new assignments.
Online, reconnect promptly after losing your connection. If a player leaves or their disconnect grace expires during an unfinished round, it ends without points. Idle rooms expire.
After the offline download is ready, all local variants can run without the server. Install from your browser where supported, or revisit the site offline. Online rooms require a connection. Cards hide when you switch tabs or apps; reveal them again deliberately.
