Offline Party Games on One Phone: Spyfall and Words

You can play Classic Spyfall, Secret Words and Similar Words on one shared phone, tablet or computer. The device deals private cards and guides the round while your group talks face to face. After the offline download is ready, all three local games can reopen without an internet connection.

Which game should your group choose?

All three browser games support 3-12 players and do not require accounts or printed cards. Choose the mode based on what your group likes talking about, rather than on how many phones people brought.

  • Classic Spyfall: civilians share a location and have roles; one spy asks and answers questions without knowing the place.
  • Secret Words: most players share a word; one imposter has no word and tries to blend into ordered clue rounds.
  • Similar Words: most players share one word and one gets a related word; nobody’s card says whether they are the imposter.

Prepare for offline play while connected

Open the website while you have internet and select Offline in Start a game. Wait until the offline download is ready before relying on it without a connection. The browser saves the application shell and bundled content, not private online room responses.

You can install the site from your browser where supported, or revisit it offline. Installation options depend on the browser and device. Open it once without a connection before your gathering to confirm the download is available. If browser storage is cleared or evicted, reconnect and let the offline content download again.

Offline here means local play after the initial download. It does not mean a first-time visit works without internet, and it does not make online rooms available without a connection. The downloadable iOS app is a separate way to play, not a requirement for the browser’s local mode.

Passing one phone without exposing cards

Add player names, choose your game and pack, then hand the device to the named player while the card is concealed. That person deliberately reveals the card, reads it privately, hides it and acknowledges readiness before handing the device back.

Keep other players from looking over the reader’s shoulder. If you switch tabs or apps, cards hide and must be deliberately revealed again. A host should never read everyone’s assignments aloud. The same handoff pattern works for location cards in Spyfall and word cards in both Words variants.

  1. Select Offline and choose the game.
  2. Add 3-12 player names and select the local pack and settings.
  3. Pass the concealed screen to each named player for their private card.
  4. Follow the displayed first asker or clue giver, then discuss together.
  5. Vote privately on the device or use the labeled host-entered result after voting aloud.

Bundled packs and local rounds

Local Spyfall includes 24 locations across Everyday and Adventures. Familiar places such as a hospital or restaurant suit a first round; more unusual places invite imaginative answers. Local Words includes 36 word entries with related pairs across Everyday, Nature and Kitchen.

Use setup previews to choose content your group understands, then stop looking at the preview during card dealing. Follow the game’s displayed order and timer. A strict majority is more than half of all players. Spyfall and Secret Words give a caught spy or imposter one final guess; Similar Words ends at the vote and reveals both words and groups.

Scores, reloads and important offline limits

Each winning player earns one point. Rematches retain session scores, rotate the starter and deal new assignments. Keep the same local session open while you play. Reloading the page resets local game progress and scores; the offline download saves the app, not the current round.

The local game does not need the backend after downloading. Online rooms still require it. If you want every player to hold a separate device or to play from different places, choose online mode with a connection and arrange your own conversation call.

For a first gathering, try a practice round so everyone learns the reveal and handoff controls. Keep sound and screen brightness at a comfortable level, let each person finish reading, and use familiar words before moving to a harder pack.
